The two most recent paintings I have completed, “Mended Memory” and “Early Though the Laurel Grows,” have the addition of gold leaf. I was thinking of ways people repeat patterns throughout history and how we mend broken systems. The Japanese art of kintsugi came to mind, as it uses gold to repair and accept flaws, and consider the beauty in imperfections.
