The series began as culturally inspired fantasy character illustrations and has developed into two completed collections of enamel pins, with a third collection, Guardians of the Sea, now in development.
One of the central challenges is translating detailed character artwork into approximately 1-inch enamel pins without losing each design’s distinctive silhouette, palette and visual identity.
As the project has developed, the research process has also become more formal. For Set 3, I’m contacting relevant cultural, folklore, academic and heritage organisations for feedback on terminology and representation before publication.
I thought the project could suit Creative Boom as a story about illustration, independent product development, visual-system design and the evolution of a creative practice.
