My practice centers on portraiture as a space of projection, memory and transformation. I explore the distance between a person and their image, and how identity is shaped by memory, desire, cultural mythology and invention.
My work draws on two interconnected worlds: the mythology of punk and post-punk, and a fictionalized world of Borstal boys rooted in my formative boarding-school years. Since the early 1980s, I have used portraiture to construct and reimagine identity. My sequin portraits build faces from hundreds of individual points, creating a form of neo-pointillism in which the image emerges and dissolves with light, distance and movement.

The sequin is both material and metaphor: each fragment contributes color, reflection and information, while the surface shifts between image and abstraction, recognition and project
