Night Ephemera

I have always wondered about the nature of seeing. Much of what we “see” is what we look for and spiritual insight is no exception. These pieces began with the inspired quality of light at night and the bifurcation of the landscape into two tonal classes. Form follows light patterns, and bodies split into darkness. I use building materials and light reflective pigments to depict the liminal space between the spiritual and the mundane. These pieces change from unassuming to glowing reflections of ambient light, depending on where the viewer stands. The optimal viewing experience for these paintings is poor lighting, or a dark room with minimal light. I am committed to the idea that our world is a shell of what it is supposed to be. These paintings invite the viewer to “see” the world hidden beyond the temporal.
