I'm an Irish visual artist based in Berlin, working primarily from found photographs and translating them into painting. My most recent series, Notes from the Corner, centres on a single place: a Berlin bar called Zur Fetten Ecke, "To the Fat Corner," and its heavily graffitied toilet. I was drawn to it partly to capture a sense of place, and partly because strangers had photographed the same walls and shared them online, a record of marks changing over time. I've found over 200 of these photos.

My process draws on my earlier background in computer programming: structured, rule-based, almost like a manual algorithm, echoing the logic of digital image compression. Oil on canvas, handled with that same machine-like logic, each image dissected and reconstructed in paint, a puzzle-like process open to misalignment, flaw and glitch.
