Hand-cast, playable resin records preserving cassette, floppy disk, CD rom, and mini-disc inside the shape of the first album ever released on vinyl LP - Nathan Milstein & NY Phil’s Columbia ML 4001.
Inspired by Studio Nucleo’s “Souvenirs of the Last Century”, which upcycles and preserves furniture from the last century into resin sculptures that also function as furniture, such as an old wooden chair preserved inside a modern resin chair. Like tree resin hardening as amber around prehistoric insects, my resin records seek to amberize the histories and technologies of “extinct” audio formats inside the enduring functional format of an LP. When viewers see them presented as a series, I wish for them to consider them as cultural artifacts of public music history - messengers through deep time instead of space.
