Pentimento presents a vibrant body of new abstract paintings exploring intuitive mark making, structural layering, and the physical accumulation of time. Emerging from a sustained engagement with pentimento, the visible emergence of earlier marks beneath subsequent layers, my compositions develop through a dual methodology of application and excavation. Dense passages of acrylic and oil are applied, obscured, scraped away, and exhumed, transforming each canvas into a visual record where earlier decisions remain visible. Saturated hues emerge through translucent veils and abraded surfaces, creating a dynamic tension between spontaneity and restraint, presence and disappearance, and turning the painting into both image and artifact.
