Milan in summer is loud, hot, and packed. Postcards lie! They're lovely, but they don't capture how I feel. Instead of documenting familiar perspectives, I intentionally avoided popular tourist angles. This series is my attempt to capture the city's heavy, intimidating atmosphere. Using handheld long exposures, I blurred the crowds into ghostly figures set against the monumental, stoic architecture of the Duomo and the Galleria. This technique strips away individual identities, emphasizing a deep sense of urban isolation amidst a crowd. The buildings stand permanent and oppressive. Human shadows merely pass through. This is Milan stripped of its romanticized aesthetics. A visual study of scale, anonymity, and the subjective experience of a highly condensed urban space.
