I see my artistic work as a way of participating in humanity's ancient discourse with substances. In a very real sense, my work is as much the product of my thinking as of the immediate physical properties of the materials used - be they oils, pastels, acrylics, and my body. Materials do not only determine what can be done - they determine what is done, down to the subject matter and the color scheme.
