Return to Unicorn Island

This mural was created in June 2018 as part of the Birmingham Museum of Art's summer festival series, Art on the Rocks. Visitors to the event painted between the lines, paint-by-numbers style. From the BMA:

Wilson's work can be seen all over the city of Birmingham and draws on both art historical references and pop culture. For this mural, Wilson drew on imagery from his youth, inspired by his time spent in front of televisions in the 1980s. Wilson also included multiple references to works on view in the BMA collection, including the monkey near the center who mimics the position of Aurora as depicted by the French painter William-Adolphe Bouguereau in Dawn.
