I am not interested in obedience as punishment. I am interested in obedience as architecture, so old and so well built that it no longer announces itself as instruction. It arrives instead as elegance. As grace. As the correct way to stand in a room.

What I photograph is the seam. The place where a woman is still herself and also already the shape she was taught to become, both at once, neither canceling the other out. I do not resolve this. I do not think it resolves.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
