Still Life Portraits

After the death of my mother in 2012, I began to find solace in the quiet tranquility of still objects. It was at this point that flowers became a major focus in my personal work. The fleeting lifespan of a flower connected me with this new perception I had of death and the fragility of life. One moment the flower is in full bloom and through it's natural progression it begins to wilt, fall apart and then fade away. My work evokes feelings of stillness, sadness, beauty and balance. Using seasonal flowers, fruits and vegetables, I attempt to navigate this world which is filled with both so much grief and so much joy.
