In Melbourne Beach, the Atlantic shows itself as beautiful as it is untamable.
This series was born of a birthday gift: a Retropia lens — optics rescued from a disposable film camera. Its imperfect blur, flares and accidents transform the harsh midday light into the stuff of memory: surfers become ghosts of another time, and the birds — sharp inside the haze — seem to trace the story of the solitary navigator.
Beneath the blue, an untamed beast stirs; yet surfers keep wading into the water to try to ride it.
