The Discarded Archive

The Discarded Archive is an online archive of overlooked, forgotten and decaying things. I scan flowers on a flatbed scanner from fresh to dead, as well as everyday discarded or overlooked objects, like shoes, chargers and earphones. Everything is scanned on a black background and each image is labelled in a clinical, archival style. The public can also send in their own photos of things they have noticed, and these sit in the archive as raw images next to my scans. Most things disappear without ever being noticed. This project exists because someone stopped and looked. I grew up in the country in Taranaki, where nature taught me to pay attention to small changes, and the archive is a way of doing that with other people.
