The northern Kano in colour

ARTIST STATEMENT
My practice begins with observation.
I look at people, places, architecture, clothing, movement, traditions and everyday experiences and ask myself what stories they carry.
For me, art is not only about creating beautiful images. It is also about paying attention—to the things around us that are often overlooked, to the cultural practices that shape our identities, and to the memories contained within ordinary spaces.
I am interested in the relationship between people and their environment. I explore how culture is expressed through the way people dress, eat, celebrate, worship, trade, build, communicate and live together.
Colour is an important part of my visual language. I use it not simply to reproduce reality, but to interpret it. Through colour, gesture and expressive mark-making, I attempt to communicate .
