The Very Ugly Butterfly is an ongoing series of personal illustrations revolving around the daily problems and pleasures of a pink butterfly. As a reflection of my personal life, the series serves to lighten the parts where I've felt lonely, disappointed, and lost. The saccharine palette and dollhouse settings where the butterfly lives makes these things cute. This is not in an effort to disguise the anxieties that inspired the work. It's to reduce them to fears that can be squashed by friendship, exploration, enjoyment, and acceptance.
