Hanna Dujmović is a Sarajevo-based visual artist whose surreal, vividly coloured paintings explore female identity, patriarchal power and collective memory in the post-Yugoslav world. Since 2021, she has portrayed men as anthropomorphic figures, using humour and theatrical absurdity to challenge systems of male authority, both in the Balkans and beyond. In her imagined interiors, women reclaim agency while familiar objects and rituals reveal how power is learned and repeated. Her recent series, Childhood Nostalgia, revisits the textures of a post-war upbringing, where tenderness, discipline and inherited social norms coexist. Moving between personal recollection and shared history, Dujmović turns painting into a space for questioning what we remember, what we normalize and what we choose to change.
