I finished reading Rafael Chirbes’ diaries while I was on vacation in Greece. I found them incredibly pessimistic (especially the later ones), but at the same time, I could really relate to that feeling of seeing life in such a dark way so much of the time.

In one of those very personal moments, he wrote something about someone (I can't remember who) that really stuck with me: “Those fragile strong ones.”

And I thought, fuck, maybe we're not really pessimists after all. Maybe we're just that. A bunch of fragile strong people.
