Traces of Passage

My work begins with leaving the familiar for unfamiliar places, where learned rules loosen and the senses meet the world before logic. What I find there lies scattered like fossils in memory until, meeting another time or place, it suddenly rises, coalescing into a single image.

I came to see this through printmaking, an event in which plate, pressure and trace respond to one another. More than a medium, it is my way of receiving the world. Borrowing overlooked techniques from craft and industry, I extend its principles across media, subtly unsettling their grammar. In my wood works, a drawing becomes an etching, which is scanned, screen-printed on birch panels, carved, burned and painted in oil. From drawing to print, painting and finally sculpture, the image is pressed anew at each stage, every passage remaining as a trace.
