Unnatural History

I draw heavily from classical scientific illustration- however, I'm also deeply interested in the many fantastical and/or misguided depictions passed off as documented species during the multiple surges of colonization. I think that these invented chimeras and creatures are not mistakes, but the workings of biodiversity within and beyond our systems of classification.

I aim to create organisms that exist on the fringes of our systems of thought, things with their own needs, desires, and emotions. These creatures are combinations, modifications, or depictions of existing species- they let me explore the textures and moods of living things, and the way that our human brains interact with the non-human world.

These images were all created during October 2018.
