We Were Two Kids Just Trying to Get Out

Wojciech Lis (b. 2004) is a Polish painter and fourth-year student at the Faculty of Fine Arts at Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, Poland. His practice explores how popular culture, media and the images surrounding us become part of the way we rememember and perceive the reailty.
His paintings and mixed-media works move between personal memory and shared cultural expeience often drawing on the nostalgia, fascination and ambiguity of teenage years. He combines different materials and visual languages to create images that feel both intimate and culturally familiar. Drawing inspirations from the indeptendent cinema, Tumblr internet aesthetics, music and particularly 2010's popculture.
