Where Memory Rises

I captured Suryaloke Barnamala—the Central Shaheed Minar of Sylhet Agricultural University—rising above a quiet human moment: a parent taking a photo while children stood beneath a monument built to preserve a nation’s memory.

The structure honors the martyrs of the 1952 Language Movement, whose sacrifice defending Bangla inspired UNESCO’s International Mother Language Day. Designed around the Bengali alphabet, it transforms concrete and light into an expression of identity and resilience. By choosing black and white, I stripped away colour to emphasize its geometry, texture, and scale, reminding us that architecture comes alive through human presence and safeguards our shared freedom to speak.
