"Why Not" Prophets is a series of paintings crowded with half-formed figures: grinning skulls, wide eyes, open mouths, bodies that dissolve into color and back again. They are prophets of no particular faith. Loud, impatient and a little reckless, they answer every warning with the same question: why not?
I work intuitively, building each canvas from flat, saturated color, spray paint and oil pastel, then drawing back into it with a tangled, nervous line until the figures surface on their own. Nothing is planned in advance; the paintings are allowed to argue with themselves. The tension between joy and menace is deliberate. In these works, the party and the warning share the same mouth.
