Words Left Unsaid

The Midwest is a threshold; these watery remnants speak to that entrance and exit, upon the water, between land and lake, human and animal. I have photographed my sculptural interventions in sights of change, decay and reinterpretation: from Michigan’s Ox-Bow Artist Residency, the oldest summer school of art in the country, which sits on the site of a former riverside Inn, reshaped by deforestation and climate change, to Palmisano Park in post-industrial Chicago, the site of a former quarry, now a nature reserve and The Poor Farm in Wisconsin, once a forced-labour camp for the poor, now an art gallery. All these spaces have risen, fallen, been taken over by nature and reclaimed by artists and landscapers to reinterpret and re-understand the environment, with my artwork just another step in this cycle.
