  • also a huge thanks to Steve Fernandes who brought out a little bbq and cooked up hot dogs and wings and shared with everyone!

  • Clara Z.

These are beautiful pictures! I wish I had attended.. the commute was much too far, heh.

  • The Little Drifters project was a great way to encourage people to get their creative juices flowing on an otherwise lazy summer day. Thanks Jeff & the Vancouver Sun for putting it together & thanks for feauturing my photos!

  • jofuf

  • Rebeca

    so pretty and fun!

  • lapetitefaon

adorable! And goodness Canada is so beautiful!!!

  • Cheers for posting a pic of my lil guy launching his pirate ship. He had a blast putting it together and watching it sail out to do battle with the ducks ;). Awesome day, good times.

  • Kyle

    Wicked!!! Thank you.

  • Ro

Really nice project reminds me of the times I would go hiking in the mountains with my sister and dad. We would go fishing and we made some of these little floaters as well.

Plus I would marry the girl in the 37th pic :)

I like how in the second picture you can see Levi about to aggressively throw his boat into the lake…probably in an attempt to sink someone else’s masterpiece.

  • Wowed by this. What an amazing event. I just can’t see any reason why I shouldn’t do it here. Thanks for the inspiration, Jeff.

    • wait until you see the rest of the submissions from around the world! haha sooo good

  • Thanks for this great Saturday afternoon activity. I spent days thinking about how to build my little drifter and eventually wove some iris branches from my back garden and then added a little moss pillow, stick and leaf person, and pea pod lifeboat from my picnic at Trout Lake. It’s so fun to play!

    • you might have had the only boat with iris branches!

  • Love this project! I looked up images of driftwood boats for a posting I wrote to celebrate your project. ( http://bcfamily.ca/?p=2850 ) Just like the lanterns made for the Lantern Festival at Trout Lake, each of these boats is so charming and precious! Thanks for organizing the project.

    • thanks so much Pamela!

Photographer Daniel Ranalli Spends Two Decades Capturing Snail Trails

“Spiral #9” (1996)

Massachusetts-based photographer Daniel Ranalli has spent more than 20 years on his “Snail Drawings,” a series which consists of one image of neatly configured snails and a second image of the unique patterns made when the snails were left to their own devices.

While a simple enough concept, Ranalli sees the project as a reflection of the inherent randomness of life and our inability to control the results or elements of a situation no matter how hard we might try! See more of Ranalli’s work below or on display at Classic Photographs Los Angeles January 21-22.

GIRLSCHOOL x Society6

Deap Vally x Natalie Foss

Musician Anna Bulbrook (The Bulls, Airborne Toxic Event, and Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros) recently launched GIRLSCHOOL, a Los Angeles-based music festival and collective that celebrates female voices. A portion of proceeds from each event go to a girl-positive organization, and this year’s festival (Jan 27-29) will support Rock n’ Roll Camp for Girls LA, a 501c3 social justice organization using loud music to nurture self-esteem and self-expression in young girls.

Society6 has joined forces with GIRLSCHOOL to pair up musicians and artists to create visuals inspired by the music, to be displayed at the event. See a few more of the collaborations below!
