Marlon Sassy is the mysterious mind behind the Instagram account @gangsterdoodles — a project that started on Tumblr with just a few Sharpie drawings of rappers on 3×3 Post-It Notes. Several years and hundreds (and hundreds) of Post-Its later, the Vancouver-based illustrator has turned his pop culture doodle obsession into a fantastic hardcover book, and we have copies available in our shop!
There’s a foreword written by Stones Throw’s art director Jeff Jank (an early fan of the project) and an introduction by actor/artist Shia LaBeouf. Marlon asked him to write something after Shia randomly sent a photo of his legs covered in Gangster Doodle tattoos!
Marlon self-published the book and has spared no expense; there are 336 glorious pages with 24 foil inserts. Have a look at images from the book below.
