Heads up! Skillshare has released a new class with everyone’s favourite calligrapher, the viral sensation, Seb Lester. You might have seen that video we posted on Facebook featuring a few of Seb’s fav video clips — I just checked and it’s now been viewed 63 Million times! 63 MILLION. I think it’s safe to say a lot of people find it satisfying to watch someone create beautiful letters, so why not try it for yourself!
(PART 2) Best of Seb Lester’s Hand Drawn Calligraphy Videos
This is not a sponsored post, but if you wanna try out the class through our special link it will support Booooooom. We’ve also been given the same deal as before which gives you 2 months of Skillshare Premium for FREE. Regardless if you use our link or not, I think this class is super informative and Seb does a great job leading it.
The image at the top of this article shows Seb using an oblique pointed pen, from the bonus section of the class where he reveals a bunch of his favourite tools. This is cool to see however I appreciated that everything in the class was demonstrated using a simple Pilot Parallel pen. So you don’t have to go out and buy something really fancy to do the class, and as he explains, it’s easier to not have to think about properly dipping in the ink and you can just focus on your form.
In the class you’ll learn about holding the pen, warming-up, and proper proportions — I didn’t realise you actually measure the x-height of a letter using the nib-widths of your broad nib pen. Seb covers both upper and lowercase letterforms, writing words, and flourishing techniques (maybe the most fun to practice).
If you’re interested in trying out calligraphy this is a great introduction, taught by one of the most experienced teachers on the planet. It’s also kinda hard to beat the price (free). Check out Seb Lester’s “Calligraphy Fundamentals: Letterforms and Flourishing” class on Skillshare.
