“Six for Gold” by Photographer Jake Mein

A selection of images from “Six for Gold” by New Zealand-based photographer Jake Mein. Published as a photobook by Bad News Books in 2018, the series is an amalgamation of photographs taken over the course of nearly a decade. Joining disparate photographs, void of their original contexts, Mein explores themes of home, belonging, and the deterioration of familiar places. In the forward to the book, Caroline McQuarrie wonders: “Where is home for a young person in today’s world? We are told we live in a global community but here at the bottom of the world, we understand that we are physical beings and physical distance matters.”
