“sur-la-Rouge” by Photographer Josée Schryer

Born and raised on the border of rural Ontario and Québec, Canada, photographer Josée Schryer now resides in Montreal. After a 12-year separation from her father, Schryer returned to Grenville-su-la-Rouge with a daughter he had never met and a deep longing for the landscape of her childhood. “Sur-la-Rouge” documents their reunion and connection over their shared respect for the place.

“‘Sur-la-Rouge’ is tainted with family drama, souvenirs, broken relations and, most of all, apprehensions of reconnecting with hurtful memories that became irrevocably tied to the landscape.”
