Artist Spotlight: Jake Troyli

A selection of recent work exploring themes of (mis)representation, performance, otherness, and the construction of identity by artist Jake Troyli. Using himself as a sort of malleable avatar, Troyli appropriates both classical and comic motifs to create compositions that “exist in a space that defies and subverts immediate assumption.” As he explains, “I recast uncomfortable truths with an appetizing palette, utilizing self-conscious self-imagery and familiar language to navigate tense conversations with my viewer, and with myself.” Check out more of Troyli’s work below!
