“Scenes from the Last Day on Planet Earth” by Photographer Chris Maggio

New York City-based photographer Chris Maggio (previously featured here) imagines the end of the world in his latest series, “Scenes from the Last Day on Planet Earth.” Contrary to most pop culture apocalypse narratives, Maggio prefers to envision the world’s end in the most banal way possible. He explains:

“After a year of the pandemic, I wanted to make something that felt adjacent to this moment, something that was about our mortality as a society, but without the photographic tropes we’ve become accustomed to (masks, gloves, empty city streets, etc.). The end of the world is usually seen as a climax- but what if it was just another day of the week?”
