Ian Thomas Miller is an artist based in Santa Barbara, California. His recent paintings and drawings are focused on objects and situations that upon first glance may be perceived as insignificant, but, as Miller describes, “when uniquely paired, divergently utilized, and specifically framed, take on new meaning.”
“I think a lot of my work is playful, a bit funny, a bit mundane, but I think there is often a subtle severity or unease within the work as well,” he explains. “I think most situations, interactions, and moments (and I’m over simplifying here) are funny and sad, known but unknowable. I’m interested in those dichotomies.”
