Artist Spotlight: Lukas Luzius Leichtle

A selection of recent paintings by Berlin-based artist Lukas Luzius Leichtle. “I am interested in the depiction of skin as an organ that lays on the outside of our bodies, encasing and separating us an individual yet being the point of contact to everything else,” he explains. He mirrors the multi-layered nature of skin through his painting process, applying successive transparent layers. Many of the elements of his paintings interact with the notion of skin and the compression and deformation of the appearance as reflections of the inner self. Leichtle elaborates: “I like to imagine my works being something like a play on a stage, a hyperbole of reality where the slightly exaggerated is close to being theatrical and to collapse on itself.”
