“The Good Citizen” by Photographer Benjamin Rasmussen

Ambitious and beautifully executed, “The Good Citizen” (GOST, fall 2022) is the forthcoming photobook combining photojournalism by Benjamin Rasmussen, archival imagery, primary source texts, and essays by renowned legal scholar Frank Wu. Taking an honest look at American history, the project poses bold and open-ended questions exploring the ways in which the past continues to haunt the present.

The Good Citizen does not pretend to provide answers,” Rasmussen writes. “This is not a polemic, a textbook or a political tract. Rather, it is a series of images and essays that seek to provoke thought and conversation around the complicated nature of American identity.”

Benjamin Rasmussen is currently raising money for publication with a Kickstarter campaign. Check it out and donate here, and see more images from “The Good Citizen” below!
