A selection of digital illustrations from an ongoing series by Cairo-based artist Nesma Moharam. Inspired by a long-held admiration for Chinese Mezzotint printmaking, Moharam weaves a continuous visual narrative throughout each artwork, combining portraiture, nature, and architecture in ways that are both thought-provoking and romantic:
“Given the size of the portraits in the image, the impact is deliberate, and it is meant to overwhelm, command a space, and dwarf everything else that comes close to it. The series is physiologically charged with feelings of isolation, loneliness, and introversion, mirroring the artist’s by giving them a physical shape and removing the agony involved when keeping feelings hidden.”
