Artist Spotlight: Chelsea Gustafsson

A selection of recent paintings by Barwon Heads, Australia-based artist Chelsea Gustafsson. Approaching her work from a place of concern for the environment, along with her observations of society, Gustafsson says that her intention is “not to educate or add to the noise, but rather share my observations and stories I discover that surround these themes.” Bringing together disparate objects and textures, she creates sculptural forms, twisting and balancing them in the light until she finds a compositional “sweet spot,” explaining: “it’s this tension of what’s seemingly pleasing yet has an underlying awkwardness that I find a kind of peacefulness in.”
