“In Order To Bloom” by Photographer Laura Foster

A selection of images by Bristol-based photographer Laura Foster. Specializing in social documentary, portraiture, photographic experimentation and printmaking, “In Order To Bloom” explores the complexity and strength of motherhood alongside the struggles faced by those battling the disease of addiction. The series is a visual translation of conversations between two young women who witnessed their mothers’ alcohol dependence throughout their lives. Focussing on the themes of mother-daughter relationships and healing, the work aims to portray a truthful account of the disease, while challenging harmful stereotypes of addicts and starting the vital, yet so often avoided, conversation around the subject.
