Photographer Spotlight: Sophia Wilson

Twenty-two-year-old photographer and visual artist Sophia Wilson has been behind the camera since age 13. Based in New York City, Wilson, who shoots only with analog cameras and develops her own photographs by hand in the color darkroom, has shot campaigns for numerous major brands like Nike, Instagram, and Google, as well as established publications like The New York Times, Vogue, and Vanity Fair. She uses vibrant colors and uplifting elements to explore themes of diversity, coming of age, and Black womanhood.

In addition to several current worldwide commercial campaigns, Wilson is also pioneering work in the NFT space—earlier this year she created the first NFT for instagram. Of her upcoming work, she says: “you can expect to see more frequent and larger scale releases of personal works from me in 2023, including delving deeper into sculptural techniques within my photography.”
