Artist Spotlight: Ian Healy

A selection of recent work by Edinburgh, Scotland-based Irish artist Ian Healy. Drawing upon personal observations in the creation of his quirky characters, Healy uses humor to highlight and dramatize a person’s imperfections and awkwardness. His drawings and paintings explore the unique facets of his individual characters, illuminating “the rich complexities of our collective human condition.”

“I like to pick and mix different facets of expression, eccentricities or unconscious behaviours and freeze the moment,” he explains. “My semi preoccupation with multiple glasses wearing probably started with myself and my 2 pairs I need. It then morphed into a way of being or maybe just a mannerism. The epic lineage of portraiture in the history of art also fascinates me and I want to take part.”
