Illustrator Spotlight: Emilie Seto

A selection of work from France-based illustrator Emilie Seto. Living in the city of Marseille (south by the sea), most of Seto’s personal work revolves around drawing the landscapes of her city and the places she’s invited:

“I’m currently in China for two months, to attend two exhibitions I have in Chengdu and Shenyang. One of my main goals here is to bring back images of this incredible country. My landscapes are mainly drawn with pencils which allow me to have very powerful colour and be very precise at the same time. I am not a ‘technician’ in terms of drawing, my sense of perspective and anatomy is quite poor but I’ve managed to find my own logic when it comes to drawing spaces.”

When it comes to editorial work, Seto has produced illustrations for the Financial Times and the Olympique de Marseille. These opportunities have helped her not only build a career but to explore aspects of the city she wouldn’t normally have access to, like the world of football. Having been born in Lyon, Marseille may not be Seto’s hometown, but her drawings have allowed her to feel at home. See more images below.
