“Airshow Crowds” by Photographer Casey Steffens

A series focusing on the onlookers at the Bournemouth Airshow in 2022 by New York City-based photographer Casey Steffens. Taken while working on a personal project about a group of pilots and Wing Walkers in a small town in the UK, the series offers a subtle commentary on the peculiarity of looking:

“It was like walking through a wax sculpture museum. Most people completely still with their gaze set to the sky above them set to the somewhat deafening sound of the planes flying past. You’d see heads turn or the long lenses of the crowds all move in perfect unison kind of like the spectators at a tennis match. I think today with the extreme pace of the world it was nice to watch people standing so quiet and intent for minutes on end.”
