Artist Spotlight: Joshua Stolen

Paintings by artist Joshua Stolen. Stolen is a Denver-based, though soon to be Chicago-based, painter who grew up in a town not far from the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he earned his BFA. For Stolen, life in a small town is made up of certain characters and rituals. His work is an effort to memorialize those imprints of his lived experience and reconcile them with his personal mythology:

“My work is an attempt to solidify what remains after the distillation, and inevitable fictionalization, of memory. I’m interested in the slow, organic way that we recontextualize the things that make us.”
