A selection of paintings by artist Alic Brock. Born in Dayton, Ohio and currently based in Atlanta, Georgia, Brock utilizes an ultra-precise airbrush technique to reconstruct iconic images that he finds online. He manipulates the images, first with computer software and then in real-life, adjusting his stencils to create a delightful sense of unease. While favouring figures from pop-culture like basketball players and musicians, Brock doesn’t shy away from art-historic subjects or more obscure references. In the end, Brock’s intention is to “exalt and amplify,” working with a hyper-saturated colour palette, repetition and inversion, his paintings serve as a meditation on digital communication and visual transmission.
