This year we’ve invited four guest judges! We thought it would be fun to share mini interviews with each of them to give you an idea who might be looking at your work! First up is Myrto Steirou, co-founder of the incredible art-house photo book publisher, VOID. Steirou was born in Athens in 1989, and studied International Relations and Politics in Athens, London and Istanbul before turning to photography.

Can you share three life moments that shaped who you are today?
1998 (4th grade): My best friend chose to be best friends with the new girl in class.
2000–2003: The next Harry Potter book didn’t come out for three years.
2022: Right after he was born, my son decided he would never sit in a stroller or a car seat.
What is something you had to learn the hard way?
Life doesn’t pause for anyone. In the past few years, I’ve started three companies, moved homes and had two babies. There’s no perfect moment, just a lot of juggling.
When was the last time you had a first-time experience? How did it go?
About a year ago, I gave birth to my daughter. Mothering a girl has been a completely new experience for me.
Do you have a fav photo book?
I think I’ll go with one of our own—why not? Death is Not Here by Wouter Van de Voorde.
And off the top of my head, I’d also say Ray’s a Laugh, The Last Cosmology, and An American Index of the Hidden and Unfamiliar.
What’s the most recent thing you saw that blew your mind?
Bugonia by Yorgos Lanthimos
Describe one photo you have displayed somewhere in your home. What is it, who made it, and what do you like about it?
A photo from Mayflies by Dimitra Dede — three bodies seem to melt into one another, their forms touching gently. The image feels soft, warm, and slightly blurred, almost like a memory.
What’s one piece of advice someone gave you that you’ve found to be true?
Someone once told me, “You cannot control everything.” I’ve been trying to prove them wrong ever since.
