The grand prize winner of this year’s Creative Development Program is artist Andrew Tavukciyan. Andrew has been focusing much of his energy on murals and public art but is now re-evaluating his studio practice and looking for guidance on both the art-making and business sides of his career. He will receive a lifetime Format subscription and a personal mentorship with our founder, Jeff Hamada.

We’ve also selected two runners-up. The first is photographer Kathryn Allen Hurni, who shared a project in which she used medium-format photography to document the delicate trails left by slugs. Among the concepts she’s exploring is the idea of imposing order on the natural world, and she’s looking to deepen both the visual and conceptual aspects of the work.

Our second runner-up is Haley Manchon, who works as an artist and illustrator as well as a full-time graphic designer. She’s been developing a distinct aesthetic for her art and is now wrestling with how these other creative outputs might complement and strengthen her practice.

Both of our runners-up will receive a one-year Format subscription and a portfolio review with artist Stanzie Tooth from Format.

Congratulations to these three creators! We also want to acknowledge that there were 30+ standout applications on our longlist, along with many other proposals featuring interesting ideas and work. It was a clear sign that there’s an appetite for this kind of initiative, so it’s definitely something we’ll be giving more thought to in the future.
