A series reflecting on the quiet harmony of simply existing together by Junya Suzuki. Suzuki is a street photographer based in Kanagawa and Tokyo, Japan. “Aesthetic of After” inhabits the Japanese sensibility known as “wabi-sabi” which values the ordinary over the extravagant—silence over eloquence, stillness over motion. Seeking the essence of existence, things in their natural state rather than those shaped by human intervention. This perspective stands out even more with the passage of time and the way our attention spans have adapted to modern life:
“Looking back at my photographs, I began to notice something shared among them: a quietness. Perhaps I am unconsciously drawn to what remains in the quiet after, to places where things are constantly forming and dissolving, where nothing remains unchanged. Nothing endures. Life itself is finite. And it may be precisely within this impermanence that we sense a quiet harmony in simply existing together. This project listens for that presence within the everyday.”
Junya Suzuki participated in our 2026 Book Award open call and made our shortlist.
