100 Views of The Reek

100 Views Of The Reek
This project began in November 2016, after moving back to Ireland from Hong Kong. Taking inspiration from 36 Views of Mt. Fuji, by Hokusai, Homage to The Square by Josef Albers and the process of painting, the photos depict Ireland’s holy mountain, Croagh Patrick (nicknamed The Reek) from a vantage point at Lough Lannagh in my hometown of Castlebar in County Mayo.

The same viewpoint is used for every shot, using a tripod, mirrorless camera and a portrait lens. Each composition is a record of the changeable light and weather conditions, synonymous with Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way. 100 Views has developed out of my work as a painter, and the aim for each image is to capture a painterly quality of colour, contrast, texture, light and space.
