A Dinner with Myself

A Dinner With Myself is a 200-page self-directed, hand-bound book. It grew out of moving to London and finally having words for a feeling I couldn't see while living in Turkey: being caught between East and West.
The book opens with a diptych of two facing self-portraits, both of me screaming, that's what it felt like to fight with myself every time I looked in a mirror, learning to accept who I was. It closes with a rebirth diptych: one page of me giving birth to myself, the other curled in a foetal position, learning how to love the person I'd just delivered.
I shot and art-directed every image myself. The book is hand-bound, with a letterpress hardcover and exposed thread binding, symbolising structure and vulnerability, printed on 150gsm uncoated paper.
