What happens when private rituals for feeling secure become a playground for others?
In Shifting Center (2026), Chicago-based South Korean sculptor Won Ji Lim transforms counting, checking, and seeking balance into a participatory installation. A modular metal framework holds woven hog casing, suspended objects, transparent archives, and rule-based tasks. Visitors throw a ball toward an image of anxiety, memorize numbers, and seek a center with a suspended weight. They approach tasks in their own ways, turning rules devised for personal reassurance into shared experiences of negotiation and adjustment. Each configuration is complete yet open to rearrangement, exploring how security is sustained through shared experiences, repetition and participation.
