This abstract work explores, through chromatic sensations, the effects of a robin’s song on its surrounding environment. The painting acts as a kind of sonogram, registering traces and vibrations through brushstrokes, scratches, and a mixed-media technique combining acrylic paint with materials such as masking tape and various types of paper, all applied to wood.
The choice of wood as a support brings the work closer to the physical effects of sound in nature, allowing the surface itself to become a site where these vibrations can be sensed and recorded.
Verónica Durán’s practice often draws on the processes through which nature acts upon surfaces. In this work, it is not only nature’s physical imprint that is explored, but its sonic imprint: the robin’s song is translated into colour, texture, rhythm, and gesture.
